Week 4: Journalism Professionals Panel

In class on Friday (9/21) we will have a panel of folks representing different areas of the journalism field. We will be in our usual classroom (CURY 210) so no need to worry about finding your way to another location. Please use this opportunity to ask any questions you may have about this field. Be sure to tweet your questions using the hashtag #ugstJOUR. Here’s a little bit of info about some of our experts:

Nann Goplerud

Professor Goplerud has been part of the broadcast industry for over 30 years. She has worked in Kansas, New York and Dallas/Fort Worth markets. Along the way she has won numerous reporting awards, including Emmys, the DuPont-Columbia Award (broadcast journalism equivalent to the Pulitzer Prize) and the George Foster Peabody Award. She joined the UNT faculty in 2005 in order to train and share her experiences with aspiring broadcast journalists.

Peter Noble

If you have an interest in advertising and/or marketing you should definitely have some questions for Professor Noble. He has over 25 years of experience in these industries. Professor Noble has worked for a number of major clients. Ever hear of a little place called the Container Store? Maybe you’ve heard of American Airlines or Southwest Airlines. If not, maybe you’ve heard of Nissan, the client students on the National Student Advertising Competition team created a campaign for in 2012 and pitched to a panel of judges. Professor Noble coaches a team for this competition each spring. He’s always looking for talented students to join the team.

Ben Weaver

Some of you have noted an interest in photography. Ben Weaver will be with us to talk about his 35 years of experience in the photojournalism world. Professor Weaver has photographed celebrities such as Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger, Clint Eastwood and more. He has photographed most major sporting events including the Olympics, the Stanley Cup and the World Series. Professor Weaver currently runs a sports photography business, Game Action Photo. If you have questions about how to turn your love for photography into a career be sure to have some great questions ready for this expert.
