Week 6: Learning Styles

We hope you learned a lot about your campus resources on Friday. Thanks to Adrienne for such a fun adventure. Today you’ll be able to learn about more opportunities on campus that your group wasn’t able to visit Friday.

We’ve already discussed study skills in class this semester prior to your first history test. However, do you know in what environment you learn the best? The ideal learning style varies from person to person.

Today we’ll also be taking the VARK in class to determine how you learn best and discuss ways to be successful within your style.

  • BLOG: Take the Multiple Intelligences test (the first one on the list-based on Howard Gardner’s model). This will open as an Excel document so make sure your computer has that ability. Blog about how you scored on the VARK and the MI. What are your strengths and how do you capitalize on those? This is DUE by 11 pm CDT TONIGHT (10/1).
  • TWEET: Questions for visits to the Library and Career Center this week. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #ugstJOUR. Some sample questions:
CC : How do I find an alumni in my major?
L: Where can I learn more about Advertising?
Learning Center questions are due 10/2 and Career Center questions are due 10/4 by 11 pm CDT.

  • MEET: Class on Wednesday (10/3) will meet at Willis Library. Meet by the library doors at 1:00 p.m. on 10/3. They have a full class planned for us so please be prompt.

  • ATTEND: Have you signed up for a Learning Center Workshop? Check out the Learning 101 Seriesthe Study Skills Lab or other helpful support programs offered. This assignment is DUE by October 22/12 and you must write a 350 word WP blog post about your experience at the Learning Center workshop, what you learned, and how you will apply that to your own course work/study habits this semester.
